Karol G as a Cultural Icon, Not Just a Pop Star

A closer look at how Karol G is breaking barriers.

Carolina Giraldo Navarro, better known as Karol G is a Colombian singer and songwriter is redefining what the music industry and the reggaeton genre means to women across the world.

Karol first rose to fame in between 2017-2019 when she release her album Unstoppable and KG0516. She became widely known for collaborating with Nicki Minaj in the album song Tusa. Later in 2023 she became known world wide for her album Mañana Sera Bonito. With this album she became the first woman to debut #1 on the Billboard 200 with a ALL-Spanish album.

Going on tour just a few months after releasing her album, she sold out stadiums not only in the US, but also all across Latin America and Europe. She ended her tour with selling out the Madrid stadium Santiago Bernabeu four times accumulating over 225,000 fans in those four nights. After completing her tour she went on to receive Woman of the Year presented by the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards.

Selling out stadiums world wide and being in the charts wasn’t the only reason Karol was successful, but additionally she empowered women and connected people with the language of music. Now, she continues to redefine what it means to be a woman in the music industry while simultaneously continue to be on the charts and releasing more music.
